Fruits imported from hot countries have long ceased to be considered exotic. In the supermarket you can buy products from anywhere in the world. The bananas that once seemed miraculous became like apples or pears. However, there are exotic fruits on store shelves, photos with the names of which are difficult to find even on the Internet. There are also those that are heard, but you can only buy them in countries with a tropical climate.

The most unusual fruits in the world

  1. Passion Fruit. This is not the rarest exotic fruit. He came to Europe from South America. Due to its unusual taste, passion fruit is used in the manufacture of confectionery. The juice of this fruit is often used in the manufacture of cocktails, including alcoholic ones.

  2. Salak. Herring got its second name “snake fruit” because its dark brown peel resembles reptile skin. The peeled fruit is like garlic. Its flesh has a light brown color and a specific sweet taste. Cleaning herring is not easy. For this, special skill is needed to avoid cuts to the hands.

  3. Atemoya. The most exotic fruits of the world often hide under an inconspicuous shell, without attracting much attention. Atemoya refers precisely to such inconspicuous fruits. To taste, the fruit resembles a cream made from pineapple and mango.

  6. Buddha's hand. The bright yellow fruit is often used to make perfumes. In China, the Hand of the Buddha is considered a talisman. It is stored in the house as a talisman.

Its flesh tastes like grapes and has a jelly-like structure. It is no coincidence that the fruits of rambutan are used to make jelly. The seeds of this fruit are fried and also eaten.
  9. Pandanus Its second name is wild pineapple. Pandanus is found on the Malaysian islands. This red, pineapple-like exotic fruit is used to make paint.
  10. Kiwano. Fruit can be found not only in exotic countries, but also in Europe. Under the bright yellow shell with spikes hides a light green flesh, similar to cucumber. Kiwano smells like melon. The fruit tastes like a mixture of kiwi, lemon and banana.

Exotic fruits of Thailand

If you want to try as many exotic fruits as possible, head to Thailand.

Foreign tourists are not always easy to navigate in the Thai market, since not every foreigner knows how to eat this or that fruit. Even pineapples and bananas that are familiar to Europeans are important to be able to choose the right one. For example, some pineapple varieties remain green after maturity. Tourists believe they are dealing with unripe fruits. The most delicious pineapples are brought from Chang Raya. They can be recognized by their miniature size. However, it is rather difficult to find such fruits, since they are not sold everywhere. Bananas in the Thai bazaar are also presented in a large assortment: large, small, green, yellow, with a stone, etc. Locals know hundreds of recipes for making this fruit. Bananas are dried, fried, boiled, seasoned with spices.

  1. Guava is a fruit that looks like an apple. Inside are light bones and loose flesh. Tourists who decide to try a green exotic fruit will be disappointed. Guava is almost tasteless. Thais eat it with sugar or spices. In order not to experience disappointment, buy only fruits soaked in sugar syrup.

  2. Jackfruit is considered one of the largest fruits in the world. They sell it peeled, because without special skills it is impossible to clean the fruit on its own. Jackfruit tastes like candy. Bones taken from the fruit are sold separately, baked or boiled.

  3. The graceful fruits of carambola resemble a starfish in shape. In Thailand, they are widely used in the preparation of salads, drinks and sauces. You can determine the maturity to taste. It should be sweetish (not cloying). Unripe fruit is usually sour.
  4. Among the most popular exotic fruits of abundant Thailand are called mangoes. In this country, you can find a huge number of varieties of a fruit well known to Europeans. Depending on the variety, the color can be from light green to bright red. The taste also varies. Mango is highly regarded as a source of vitamins. It is used in the treatment of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as diseases of the cardiovascular system. Fruit is recommended for those who suffer from diseases of the oral cavity.
  5. The dirty green pomelo fruit is not considered exotic on European counters. Despite the external unattractiveness, it has a pleasant taste. To try this fruit cooked in Thai, it is not necessary to go abroad. It is enough to mix sugar, red pepper and salt in equal proportions. Eat the broom dipping slices in this mixture.
  6. A considerable interest of tourists is a pink apple. This fruit got its name from a misunderstanding, since the fruit has nothing to do with real apples. In shape, the fruits are similar to a bell. Their color is hardly pink. Rather, it is pale red. The smell of fruit resembles the scent of roses. The skin of the fetus is thin, easy to clean. The pulp is friable, mainly used for making desserts.
  7. The huge brown beans are actually exotic and delicious Thailand fruits. These are tamarinds. This species has a sweet and sour tart taste. Thais eat raw tamarind, as most of the fruit is edible. A refreshing drink can also be brewed from fruits. Sauces are also made from them. But for this it is necessary to choose a special, acidic variety of the fetus.

You can buy unusual fruits in Thailand not only in the market. Not every tourist will want to spend his time visiting a noisy bazaar. You can buy the coveted jackfruit or guava right on the beach. Teenagers with huge baskets stroll along the coast and buy fruits and drinks made from them. However, it should be borne in mind that on the beach everything will cost significantly more than on the market. They also sell fruit in special tents in the city. Going to mysterious Thailand, do not forget to carefully consider exotic fruits sold there in a book or on the Internet, photos with names will be an excellent guide on the Thai market.

Southeast Asian countries are just a paradise for tropical fruit lovers. Dragons fruit, mangosteen, tomarillo, durian, snake fruit, and many other exotic names here cease to amaze and become the norm. Surely in Russia, in large supermarkets, there are many of these fruits, only, firstly, their prices can vary by an order of magnitude, and secondly, in order for them to appear in the shelves in an attractive form, they are pretty stuffed with chemicals or sent unripe, which can not but affect the taste and useful qualities. But in SEA, at home, many of these fruits cost a penny - for example, ripe and juicy mangoes in the season can be bought for 5 rubles, and a large (3 kg) sweet papaya for 30 rubles. As for the usual apples and pears, here they, on the contrary, are one of the most expensive fruits. In addition, there are almost no berries here, with the exception of strawberries, which sometimes makes us happy. For the sixth month we have been living in Bali, and every day we enjoy a variety of fruit flavors. There are several dozens of tropical fruits here, and given that each of them, as a rule, has several varieties, and the taste of each variety is unique and inimitable, it becomes clear how well fruit lovers live here. The same fruits that we tried in Mexico, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia often differ not only in taste, but also in name and shape. Eyes on the market or in the store run up, it is difficult to choose a particular fruit, so we buy huge boxes that can hardly fit on a bike. We do not knowingly write about prices, because everywhere they are different, they depend on the country, seasonality, variety and ability to bargain. So, we begin acquaintance with tropical exotic.

Snake fruit, Balinese call it salak

Fruits of a rounded or pear-shaped shape, tapering with a wedge to the apex, are covered with a scaly brown peel that resembles snake skin, from which the name of the fruit came. The peel is thin and easy to peel, just cut it or tear it at the edge, and then peel it off like an egg shell. The pulp of white or beige color consists mainly of three segments. If the fruit is unripe, then due to the high content of tannin, it knits the mouth, this is the first time we tried it in Malaysia in the spring - we did not like it, and we safely forgot about it. Here in Bali, herring, as one of the most common fruits, quickly became familiar, we tried it again, and, we can say, fell in love. In Bali, 2 varieties are common. One, more elongated, consists of 3 identical segments, has a pleasant refreshing sweet taste, reminiscent of pineapple and banana with a slight nutty flavor. The second, more rounded, with two large segments and a third small without pitted, similar in taste to gooseberries and pineapple. Both varieties are quite interesting, we buy different ones with the same success. Salak contains tannin, which removes harmful substances from the body, has astringent, hemostatic and antidiarrheal properties. In the north of Bali, in the forests, we somehow found wild herring. Unlike a garden one, its peel is prickly in small needles, no longer than 1 mm long, and the fruits themselves are smaller. They taste sweet, but peeling because of the thorns is not very pleasant, so we fed them to the monkeys, who were not an obstacle to the thorns, and they managed to clean them as fast as they do with bananas.

Tamarillo (tamarillo)

The fruits are tamarillo ovoid in shape, about 5 cm long. The shiny peel is hard and bitter, inedible, and the flesh has a sweet and sour, tomato-currant taste, with almost no aroma. The skin color may be orange-red, yellow, or violet-red. The color of the pulp is usually golden pink, the seeds are thin and round, black, edible. The fruits resemble long-fruited tomatoes, and therefore dubbed it a tomato tree. Tomarillo can be cut into 2 halves and just squeeze the flesh into your mouth, or peel with a knife, holding the tail - you get such a flower
Tamarillo contains a large amount of vitamins A, B6, C and E, as well as trace elements - iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and calcium. The fruit will be useful to those who suffer from migraines. We fell in love with this fruit because of the berry-currant taste - there are very few berries in Bali, mostly all imported ones (except strawberries). Tamarillo makes an excellent sauce, with the addition of lemon juice, ginger and honey. The sauce is suitable for both spicy dishes and desserts.

Mango

Of the many tropical fruits, mango, as before, remains one of our favorites - it seems that you can eat it as much as you like and never get tired. In Russia, we sometimes bought them in a store and the concept of different varieties did not exist for us - there are just mangoes and everything, what was our surprise that, it turns out, there are several dozen of them. India collects about 13.5 million tons of mangoes per year (just think about the numbers!) And is thus the main producer (the most famous variety is mangifera indica 'Alphonso'), followed by China (a little over 4 million tons) in the third - Thailand (2.5 million tons), Indonesia - 2.1 million tons. Ripe fruits of different varieties taste very different, most often they are sweet and have pleasant aromas of different shades from honey even to ginger
Arriving in India in early November, we were very surprised to find no mangoes on sale - it turned out that the season begins in April. They flew off at the end of March, and literally in the last week the first crop went on sale - they were small red mangoes, very fragrant and sweet, for several days we could not tear ourselves away from them. We really liked the variety of mango varieties in Malaysia - from Thai light yellow, with beige pulp inside, to green thick-skinned, immature-looking, but with bright orange, sweet pulp. But really, we gorge ourselves on a mango in Bali. In May and June, the choice was not very large, but in August, September, and especially in October, the variety of varieties and prices do not cease to please us. Our favorite Harumanis variety is green mangoes with orange, sweet, honey pulp. Mangoes have a lot of vitamins and fructose, and few acids. Vitamin A has a beneficial effect on the organs of vision, helps with "night blindness" and other eye diseases. Regular consumption of mangoes improves immunity and protects against colds. Green mango is also rich in vitamin C. Mango fruits are often used in home medicine, for example, in India, mangoes are used to stop bleeding, to strengthen the heart muscle, and also to improve brain function.

Jackfruit

Everyone who sees jackfruit for the first time is very surprised, and there is something - this is the largest fruit in the world growing on a tree. The length of the fruit is 20-90 cm, diameter up to 20 cm, and the fruit weighs up to 35 kg (in the photo for comparison, a mandarin duck). The thick peel is covered with numerous conical protrusions-thorns. Young fruits are green, when ripe, they become green-yellow or brown-yellow. If the fruit fell and did not ripen, it is eaten like a vegetable, in India we have repeatedly tried jackfruit curry. But fresh was first tried in Sri Lanka at the end of April, where the season had just begun. You can find ripe fruit in the period from May to September, when you tap it makes a hollow sound (immature fruit is deaf). Inside, the fruit is divided into large lobes, which contain a sweet yellow pulp consisting of juicy slippery fibers. In each lobe there is an oblong seed 2-4 cm long, in one fruit there can be up to 500 seeds
The peel and seeds of the ripe fruit have an unpleasant putrefactive smell, while the flesh smells nice, there is something in common with banana and pineapple, but the taste is still specific, for an amateur, we liked it very much. All parts of the plant, including the peel, contain sticky latex, so it is recommended to cut the fruit by lubricating the hands with sunflower oil or wearing rubber gloves :) In the refrigerator, fruit can be stored for 1-2 months. In supermarkets and markets, jackfruit is mainly sold in cut form, since whole fruits are scared away by their thorns, and secondly, not everyone is ready to master such a giant. Due to its severity, often jackfruit falls from a tree and breaks. Due to the strong smell, it is easily found by animals, which carry seeds throughout the forest, which contributes to its active distribution. Jackfruit is very nutritious, they contain about 40% carbohydrates. In particular, therefore, and also because of its cheapness and universal availability, jackfruit in India is called "bread for the poor" or breadfruit. Seeds are also nutritious - they contain 38% carbohydrates, they are fried and eaten like chestnuts. It tastes rather dry, but it goes well with salads.

Dragon fruit or dragon fruit, aka pitaya or pitahaya

Belongs to the cactus family. Due to its interesting and unusual shape, as well as its bright pink color, the fruit cannot go unnoticed. The fruit has white or red (depending on the variety), creamy pulp and a delicate, slightly perceptible aroma. The pulp is eaten raw, the taste is sweet. It is convenient to eat, cut into 2 halves, scooping out the pulp with a spoon. To some, dragon fruit may seem fresh and not too tasty, but if you try it properly, you will definitely like the fruit (like, for example, Mozzarella cheese, which also does not have a pronounced taste). The fruit grows on cacti and blooms only at night. The flowers are also edible, they can also be brewed in tea. The fruit is low in calories, helps with stomach pains and has a beneficial effect on the quality of vision.

Rambutan

The fruits are round or oval, 3-6 cm in size, grow in clusters of up to 30 pieces, sometimes they are sold directly on the branch. As they ripen, the fruit changes color from green to yellow-orange, and then to red. If you want to get the most pleasure, choose fruits of bright red color. Juicy white fruits are covered with dense peel, strewn with bent, stiff hairs of yellow-brown color, 1-2 cm long. The pulp is gelatinous, white, very fragrant and has a pleasant sweet and sour taste. Inside is an inedible oval seed, up to 1.5 cm long. Raw seeds are poisonous, but if roasted, they can be eaten. Seed oil is used in the manufacture of soaps and candles. Rambutans contain carbohydrates, proteins, calcium, phosphorus, iron, nicotinic acid and vitamin C. The fruits are eaten mostly fresh, sometimes canned with sugar. Moreover, in Malaysia, these canned fruits are sold on every corner, like a snack, and they also make soft drinks. For the first time we met with rambutans in their homeland - in Malaysia. From Malay rambutan is translated as "hairy." Fruits are very light in weight, so they can contain several tens in 1 kilogram. By the way, after the bananas, which we pretty much hooked in India (not only because of taste, but also for reasons of sanitary safety), this is fruit number 2, which you can easily and safely eat while traveling. A bunch of rambutans can be bought at the market or on the side of the road and eat right away, which you won’t do with the same papaya or mango, not to mention the fruits that are eaten with the skin. You just need to tear the peel in the middle and remove the upper half (the hairs are not scratchy at all), then send the pulp into your mouth and remain in your hand with the second half of the peel - you do not even need to wash your hands. In Malaysia, we hit just the rambutans season (May) and the price for 1 kg was the same as for 1 kg of mango (about $ 1), but in Bali, they turned out to be 3 times more expensive, although in October they had already fallen in price to $ 1.5 .

Mangosteen (mangostin), aka mangosteen, mangosteen, garcinia, mangkut

The fruit is round, 4-8 cm in diameter, covered with a thick (1 cm) burgundy-inedible peel, under which there are 5-8 segments of white, very juicy pulp, with large seeds inside each segment. We met mangosteen in Sri Lanka - seeing them for the first time, we thought that there was some strange persimmon here. We were not going to buy them, but the seller at the last moment held us back, showing a deft focus, opening this fruit in a second. Seeing the juicy flesh, we could not resist the desire and tried it, well, and then of course we bought it. The taste of the fruit is very pleasant, creamy-sweet and slightly tart. Mangosteen is recommended to use to combat obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, colds, depression and a huge list of different diseases. In hot weather it is a great fruit to quench your thirst.

Melody (melodi), aka pepino, melon pear or sweet cucumber

The fruits are diverse, differ in size, shape, color and taste. Some have an exotic color - bright yellow, others purple, which reminds eggplant. The pulp of a ripe fruit is light yellow or completely colorless. To taste, the melody resembles a mixture of pear and cucumber with a melon aroma. It can be added to sweet desserts and salads (depending on the variety). Here in Bali, we love to add it to salads - the fruit costs about the same as cucumbers, and the taste is more tender and interesting. The shades of taste, by the way, are different - from sweet and sour to sweet. The melody itself is very juicy, it is 92% water, so it is great for quenching thirst. Vitamin C gives acidity to the fruit, the fruit is also rich in iron, keratin and a large amount of vitamins A, B1, B2 and PP.

Longan (longan) or dragon's eye

The first name comes from the name of the Vietnamese province of Longan. And the second from the structure of the fruit - if you break the “berry” in half, then a black stone appears, which against the background of a transparent beige pulp, resembles the eye of Longan growing in clusters on evergreen trees, whose height can reach twenty meters. Over 200 kg of fruit is removed from each tree during the summer. Outwardly, the fruits are like nuts, easy to clean. The color of the inedible outer shell of the fruit is spotty yellowish. Lognan has the ability to ripen after removal from the tree. Under the skin hides a clear juicy pulp - sweet and very aromatic with a musky flavor. Under the pulp is one large bone. Longan is quite rich in vitamins, it has a lot of vitamin C, B1, B2 and B3, as well as micro and macro elements such as phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium, copper, iron, zinc, manganese and, in addition, many bio acids, useful for the skin. With such wealth, the fruit is low in calories. Longan can be eaten fresh, or as a snack with hot and spicy dishes, a drink from it perfectly quenches thirst and improves appetite
For the first time we tried fruit in Bali - somehow walking around the market with our Balinese friend Budi, we asked him about our favorite fruits and he, without delay, pointed to this rather inconspicuous fruit. Be originally from Java, and there the longan is very popular. The first time we didn’t really like it, the aroma was not as pronounced as expected. We decided that we simply did not try it, and after a couple of days we bought it again - this time the longan turned out to be very tasty and juicy. Against the background of other exotic, more appetizing-looking fruits, he certainly loses outwardly, but here the palette of useful components included in it and a refreshing taste prompt you to buy again and again. Longan is used in Chinese traditional medicine as a tonic for weakness, fatigue, tachycardia, dizziness, and impaired vision. Also, the pulp of the fruit is used to treat gastrointestinal upsets, lower body temperature during fever, soothe with unreasonable excitement, normalize sleep and improve memory, and focus.

Kepundung or Asian gooseberry

In appearance it is very similar to Longan, but the taste is completely different. The peel is dense but easy to clean. The fruits inside are pink and white, have a viscous jelly structure, there is a stone that is difficult to separate from the pulp - this is one of the reasons why Kepundung is easier to use for making syrups and sauces, and not to use it fresh. The fruit tastes very pleasant, sweet and sour, refreshing with a light delicate aroma. Kepundung is a well-known source of vitamin C in Asia, which makes it useful for treating diseases of the throat and respiratory tract. The fruit is considered sacred among Indian and Tibetan healers who use dried fruits to solve a wide range of problems, such as indigestion, fever, liver problems, and anemia. Kepundung is good for the prevention and treatment of stress, fever, arthritis.

Tamarind (tamarind) or Indian date, aka asam, asem, sampalok

In general, this is a plant of the legume family, but they sell it in the fruit department, and because of the sweet taste, many people really consider it a fruit. A fruit is hidden under the shell - a brown pod-like bean, similar, sorry, like a shit, consisting of soft pulp and many dense seeds. The pulp can be eaten fresh, like fruit or tea sweetness. It is also widely used as a spice in both Asian and Latin American cuisines. The pulp of green fruits is acidic and used in the preparation of spicy dishes, but ripe fruits are sweeter, with a fruity taste, they are used to make desserts, drinks, snacks. In Latin America, especially in Mexico, this fruit is very popular and is used in all kinds of ways. It was in Mexico, for the first time, that we got acquainted with its taste - we tasted Tamarindo sweets - hard sweets with pits, with a characteristic aroma and taste. We didn’t like the sweets, but here, in Bali, we bought fresh tamarind, not even suspecting that we had tried it before - this time it was to our liking. Due to its healing properties, pulp, leaves and bark are used in medicine. In the Philippines, leaves are traditionally used to make herbal tea, to relieve fever in malaria. And in India, in Ayurveda - for the treatment of diseases of the digestive tract. Tamarind contains a large amount of vitamin C, as well as vitamins A and E. Protects against colds and heart diseases. Tamarind is the official Santa Clara tree in Cuba and is depicted on the city coat of arms.

Papaya

Sweet juicy pieces of papaya melt in the mouth. The fruit is exceptionally nutritious, and that the most interesting papaya does not bother at all, we enjoyed it very often in India and Sri Lanka, and in Bali this is our traditional breakfast dish for the sixth month. Papaya is very sweet in India and Bali, we especially like the California variety, and in Thailand, as our friends say, it is more watery. In Mexico, we liked it only in combination with yogurt or honey - there it is more customary to eat it a little immature and even with salt and chili. Papaya is a valuable source of beta-carotene, a third of a medium-sized fetus satisfies the adult's daily requirement for vitamin C, and also provides the necessary amount of calcium and iron. Papaya fruits are not only in appearance but also in chemical composition similar to melons, they contain glucose and fructose, organic acids, proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals, so papaya is sometimes called a “melon tree”. They say that when roasting on fire, papaya fruits smell like fresh bread, which gave this plant another interesting name - “bread tree”. Green papaya has contraceptive and abortive properties - Asian women who wanted to terminate their pregnancy ate large quantities of unripe fruit. In tropical countries, papaya juice is used for diseases of the spine, as it contains an enzyme that regenerates the connective tissue of the intervertebral discs. Perhaps it is because of the frequent use of papaya that Asian people are less susceptible to diseases of the motor apparatus, even despite the tradition of carrying heavy weights on their heads.

Coconut (cocos, coconut)

Although they are often called "coconuts", in fact, they are not nuts, but drupes - stone fruits (like peaches). The weight of the coconut is 1.5-2.5 kg, its outer shell is green, brown or yellow, depending on the variety, is riddled with fibers, and the inner, hard shell is the very “shell” that many people are used to seeing on store shelves. In young coconut, the liquid (coconut water) is transparent and tasty, it is these coconuts that are bought as a drink. Gradually, with the appearance of droplets of oil secreted by the bark inside, the liquid turns into a milky emulsion, then thickens and hardens, freezing on the walls of the shell. In Mexico, we mostly bought hard, sliced \u200b\u200bcoconuts. If they are with chocolate, they are very reminiscent of Bounty bars. But coconut water was first tried in India. There young coconuts are sold on every corner, and they are very cheap ($ 0.3 versus $ 1-1.5 in Bali). They are not sold in fruit trays, but often simply from a cart. Sometimes, right under a tree on the ground, lies a mountain of fresh coconuts and chopped knuckles. Sellers deftly, in 2-3 doses, cut off the top and insert a straw - the drink is ready
In a young coconut, about 2 cups of “coconut milk”. After the natural capacity is empty, you can ask to chop it into 2 parts and a spoon, made immediately by the seller from one cut in the outer layer, to scrape the flesh - a translucent jelly slurry. In Bali, various varieties of both young coconuts and hard ones are abundant, and the latter are sold already peeled, which is very convenient. The first place in the world in the production of coconuts, and this is about 20,000 thousand tons of fruit per year, is taken by the Philippines. Indonesia and India in 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. Coconut is a strong aphrodisiac, it normalizes the reproductive system. Coconut milk and pulp well restore strength and improve vision. Coconut oil is generally a universal product, it is used in cooking, for medical and cosmetic purposes. Strengthens and nourishes hair, and also moisturizes and softens the skin, smoothing wrinkles; improves the digestive system and liver; normalize thyroid function; relaxes muscles and helps with joint problems; increases immunity and resistance to various infections, reduces the adaptability of bacteria to antibiotics. The pulp normalizes the level of cholesterol in the blood; helps with colds, diarrhea, and gall bladder diseases; possesses antimicrobial, antiviral wound healing effect; reduces the risk of atherosclerosis and other diseases of the cardiovascular system, as well as cancer and degenerative processes. Hard coconuts contain B vitamins and vitamins C and E, as well as various mineral salts. In general, not a fruit, but a whole natural pharmacy.

Pineapple (ananas, pineaple)

The largest pineapple plantations are concentrated in the Hawaiian Islands, which is about 30% of world production. Did you know that pineapples grow on bushes, and not on a tree? The first time they grow, we are in Sri Lanka, and we were very surprised by Pineapple, along with bananas, this is one of the most popular fruits in Asia, we find them in every country - of different varieties and sizes. The most delicious pineapples we ate in Sri Lanka - bright, sweet and juicy, with a rich aroma, just heavenly pleasure. Our friends even brought such pineapples from Sri Lanka home to Russia as souvenirs. And in India, we liked the way of cleaning pineapples on the beaches. In the states of Kerala and Goa, saleswomen carry fruit for sale in large basins on their heads, among them there are pineapples. They are turned “tail” down, cleverly peel the peel with a knife, and literally a minute later they are handed like an ice cream cone. Pineapple is low-calorie, and a high content of potassium salts helps get rid of excess fluid and even a few kilograms of weight. Pineapple dessert improves digestion of fatty foods and improves metabolism. Thanks to a complex of biologically active substances, pineapple stimulates digestion and reduces blood viscosity. Pineapple contains vitamins A, B and C, as well as numerous trace elements, including bromelain, which improves the body's absorption of protein substances.

Passion fruit (marakujya), he is an edible passionflower, or edible passionflower, or purple granadilla

For the first time we tried this passion fruit in Bali, and I must say that the first time he did not make much impression on us, but the second time we tried it - passion fruit is really very tasty and unusual. The color of the fruit, depending on the variety, varies from light yellow to maroon, the jelly-like flesh can be transparent, beige, greenish. Taste shades are also quite different - from sweet and sour to very sweet. We have not yet become addicted to a particular variety, we are trying different ones. It is enough to cut the fruit in half, after which the fragrant sweet pulp can be eaten with a spoon. Passion fruit seeds are also edible - they are used to decorate cakes and other confectionery. Sweet and sour passion fruit juice is appreciated in cooking, and since it also has good tonic properties, it is used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetology. The fetus is very effective in relieving headaches, muscle tension and insomnia.

Guava or guava

The fruit is usually round, oval or pear-shaped, with a pleasant musky odor. The color of the fruits is very different - yellowish-white, bright yellow, reddish, greenish-white or even green, the skin is always very thin. Fruits are different in size - from very small to large, depending on the variety. The pulp is white, yellow, pink or bright red, filled with hard seeds. The number of seeds ranges from 112 to 535 (and some fruits do not contain seeds at all). Guava gives one main crop, up to 100 kg per tree - and 2-4 additional much smaller ones. The best adult trees give 200-250 kg. in a year. The first time we tried guava in India, they prefer to eat it unripe, green. It is cut in half and sprinkled with pepper (we refrained from this additive). The taste is unusual, we liked it, but the unripe fruits didn’t really like the stomachs. In Bali, we tried a different kind of guava, and this time we ate ripe fruit. These fruits are similar in size and color to Asian lemons, and the pale pink delicate flesh resembles strawberries to taste
Guava - a storehouse of health, it is the only fruit that contains 16 vitamins, minerals, salts and trace elements. Interesting fact: guava in content of vitamin C exceeds orange by 5-10 times. Guava fruits are widely used not only in nutrition (jelly, jams, sauces, marmalade, juices), but also in the manufacture of alcoholic beverages. Guava juice has a psychostimulating effect, in ancient times it was added to drinks by warriors and hunters to give them vigor and strength, and Cuban women fed these fruits to their beloved, they contain aphrodisiacs - substances that strengthen “male power” and enhance sexual desire. The guava is also used as an air freshener - if the cut fruits are brought into the smoky room, then after 10 minutes the smell of tobacco will disappear.

Yellow watermelon

It looks like an ordinary striped watermelon, only inside it is unusual, bright yellow. Such a watermelon was born as a result of crossing a wild watermelon (which is just yellow) with the usual. In addition to the unusual coloring, this watermelon contains very few, compared to red, seeds - sometimes we come across without stones. The first time we tried yellow watermelon in Malaysia and it turned out to be not very sweet, and in Bali we buy them often and always come across sweet ones. Once, to compare tastes, both red and yellow, so red turned out to be less sweet, even seemed watery, although if it is separate from yellow, it is quite fragrant and sweet
Despite the fact that it is a hybrid, yellow watermelon, like regular watermelon, contains many vitamins and perfectly contributes to the regulation of the excretory system.

Sapodilla (sapodilla) he is Savo, he is Chiku, he is achra

A brown-green egg-shaped fruit, up to 5 cm in size. Smaller fruits are similar to small potatoes, and those larger are like kiwi. The peel is soft and easy to clean with a knife. The flesh is yellow-brown, juicy, very sweet with a caramel-date taste, sometimes even sweetly sweet if the fruit is ripe. It is better to choose soft fruits, even if they are a little "skukozhennye", will be just sweeter. For the first time we tried this fruit in India and it immediately became our second favorite (after bananas). In India it is called "chiku", so we are more used to this name. In Bali, it is known as "Savo", or "Balinese kiwi." The fruit is eaten both raw and cooked - in the form of jams and salads, also stewed with lime juice and ginger, put in pies and even make wine based on it. Chiku is rich in plant proteins, carbohydrates, iron, potassium and calcium, as well as vitamins A and C. Useful properties of chiku are used by cosmetics manufacturers - the fruit has antiseptic and regenerative properties.

Durian

In Southeast Asia, durian is considered the king of fruits. It is ovoid or round in shape, about 15-30 cm in diameter, weighing from 1 to 8 kg. Durian is covered with pyramidal rigid spikes of thorns and is somewhat similar to Jack Fruit, many tourists, by inexperience, even confuse them. The fruit is a five-leaved box, each of the 5 chambers of the fruit contains one pale yellow seed with pulp, which has the consistency of a pudding and an incomparably “delightful” aroma. The smell of a ripe fruit is really peculiar, very corrosive, sweet and putrid. The raw flesh of ripe durian fruits is considered a delicacy, the fruits are eaten by hands, breaking them at the seams and taking out the flesh with seed from the chamber
Its taste resembles a sweet almond cream with the addition of cream cheese, onion gravy, cherry syrup and other hard-to-compatible foods. Durian, if it is not overripe, smells only when cut, and the smell appears only half an hour after the fruit has been cut. The smell of durian is sometimes described as a mixture of rotten onions, cheese and turpentine. Because of this, in many countries of Southeast Asia it is forbidden to add durian to public places and transport, in many hotels in those countries where durian grows, there is even a poster with a crossed out image of fruit, especially we saw a lot of such posters in Singapore, there’s even a fine for it relies. Durian contains a rich set of minerals - potassium, calcium, magnesium and zinc, these are vital elements for the work of the cardiovascular, nervous, immune and other body systems. A decoction of the leaves and roots of durian is used as an antipyretic, and the pulp as an anthelmintic. It is eaten fresh, added to confectionery, as a filling in chocolate sweets, ice cream, drinks, fried as a side dish, or mixed with rice. For the first time, we decided to get acquainted with the taste of durian in Malaysia by tasting ice cream with this taste. We absolutely did not like it, although it was unlikely to have something in common with the taste of a real fruit - it contained soy milk and a dozen flavorings, stabilizers, etc. We haven’t met anyone indifferent to this fruit - it is either dearly loved or disgusted. Previously, we even avoided talking about trying durian, but recently we still decided on this feat. Our verdict - durian has a very rich taste with many shades, we liked it very much, so in the future we will certainly buy it.

Carambola or star fruit

There are mainly 2 types: acidic, as a rule, green and sweet - yellow. The fruits of both varieties are very juicy and slightly grassy. Acid varieties have a pronounced tonic effect, we first tried them in Bali, these varieties are ideal for making salads. We met sweet varieties a long time ago, while traveling around Europe, we especially fell in love with them in the Canary Islands. Juicy flesh most closely resembles a harmonious combination of gooseberries, apples and cucumbers. Sweet varieties are very tasty in their raw form, they can also be added to fruit shakes, or used as an edible decoration for ice cream and cakes - when sliced \u200b\u200bfruit, pretty stars are obtained. Due to its juiciness, carambol is ideal for quenching thirst. The mineral and vitamin complex of the fruit is represented by calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, potassium, beta-carotene and vitamins B1, B2, B5, and C. The aroma of carambola is significantly enhanced if it is slightly boiled in syrup until soft.

Asian lemons (lemon)

Of course, lemons are everywhere, and tropical fruits can be attributed to them with a stretch, but we decided, nevertheless, to write about them, because in appearance they are very different from the usual ones. Asian lemons are small, round, yellow-green or green, which makes them look like lime, which tourists often confuse. By the way, lemon very cool changes or transforms the taste of the usual fruit. Try, for example, sprinkling papaya with lemon juice and get an unusual taste, papaya will seem even sweeter. We also often use lemons for making lemon-ginger-honey tea. Lemon contains so much vitamin C that even with short-term heating of lemon juice to 100 ° C, the content of vitamin C is almost not reduced, which allows you to add it to tea and not lose useful properties (the main thing is not to boil it). Lemon juice is a prophylactic against heart attacks, strokes, and is also able to kill dozens of viruses.

Chomphu, jambolan, iambosaili or Malay apple, also called a wax, pink, mountain or water apple

The fruits are oblong, bell-shaped. Although the fruit is called an apple, it looks more like a small pear 4-8 cm long. The fruit has a pink-red or dark red, sometimes red-green waxy skin, inside is a white juicy crisp pulp and 1 or 2 inedible brown seeds, although there are fruits and without seed. The ripened fruit has a pleasant, sweet aroma, and the fruit itself is good for quenching thirst. For the first time we tried it in Bali - we bought it several times, and each time the tastes are different, from very sweet to tasteless watery, apparently we have not yet learned to determine the maturity of the fetus. The ripened fruits of the wax apple are edible not only fresh, but also stewed with cloves and other spices, in cream. Unripe fruits are suitable for making jam, jams and marinades. White and red wine are also made from these fruits. Malaysian apple contains bioactive substances, due to which the level of sugar in the blood is reduced, therefore it is very useful for diabetics. It is also actively used in traditional medicine in many tropical countries. For example, a decoction of the bark of a tree is used for intestinal disorders, a decoction of the root as a diuretic, and juice from the leaves is used as a face lotion, or they take a bath with it. The fruit has an antimicrobial effect, it is used to regulate blood pressure and in the treatment of colds.

Sirsak (sirsak), guanabana, prickly apple or sour cream

Fruits are heart-shaped or oval, irregular in shape, 15-20 cm in length and weighing up to 3 kg. The peel is thin and tough, has small fleshy spines located in a mesh pattern, the color is dark green, sometimes with black spots, the ripened fruit turns yellow. The pulp is juicy, fibrous, light cream, similar to custard, divided into segments, has a fragrant unique smell resembling pineapple, the taste is sweet with a slight acidity, nutmeg. The fruit is eaten both fresh and used to make drinks, desserts, fruit salads and ice cream. The fruits are picked, not ripened, solid, because if you allow them to ripen on a tree - they fall and get damaged. At room temperature, they ripen and become soft. In Indonesia, unripe fruits are used as vegetables. We eat it fresh, we first tasted it in the Canary Islands, but then we did not appreciate the taste and did not buy for a long time. And more recently, when they wanted exotic ones and bought a sirsak, they liked the taste. We just cut in half, by analogy with pitaya, and eat the pulp with spoons, but you can cut into cubes and eat with a fork, to whom it is more convenient. Sirsak contains important minerals - calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, as well as vitamin C and B vitamins. The fruit is good for intestinal microflora, improves liver function, normalizes stomach acid, removes uric acid from the body, therefore it is recommended for people suffering from such diseases like rheumatism, arthritis and gout. In folk medicine, the bark and leaves are used as an antispasmodic and sedative, they are used for insomnia, cough, flu, asthenia, asthma and hypertension.

Bananas

This is definitely one of the most popular fruits on the planet. It's hard to believe, looking at a pile of identical bananas in Ribbon or Auchan, but there are more than 40 different species around the world. Most of the varieties, simultaneously on sale, we saw in India (about a dozen). There are sold bananas of different colors, shapes and sizes from very small with a little finger, to giant ones under 30 cm and of course, each of them has its own unique taste. In India, bananas were our number one fruit. Firstly, they are incredibly tasty, most of all we loved yellow, finger and red, they are very sweet. Secondly, because of the convenience of their cleaning and safety in unsanitary conditions. Thirdly, they are very cheap - $ 0.3-0.5 for a large bunch, weighing 1.5 kg. By the way, red bananas practically do not export, because they are very soft and delicate, they are easy enough to damage during transportation. Ecuadorian bananas, which everyone is used to in Russia, cannot be compared with Asian varieties in terms of sweetness and aroma. Bananas are conditionally divided into two main groups: dessert, which they eat, raw or dried, and plane trees, which require heat treatment. The pulp of dessert varieties is very sweet in taste, contains a large amount of sugars, carbohydrates and a small amount of protein and fat, so they are often used in sports nutrition. Platano is a fruit with a green or red peel, with a starchy, hard, often unsweetened pulp, they are fried, boiled or steamed before use. Most often in the markets and cafes they are sold as a snack - banana chips or a banana in batter dessert. Bananas contain more vitamin B6 than other fruits, it is this vitamin that is responsible for a good mood, and because of its high phosphorus content, a banana is called a fruit for intelligence. By weight, the banana crop ranks second in the world, ahead of grapes (third place) and yielding to oranges (first place). The largest number of bananas in the world is grown in India. Dried bananas - "banana figs", can be stored for a long time. In addition to fruits, young shoots of plants can be eaten, for example, in India, curries are prepared from them. In Bali, we tried to make curry from young shoots on our own, but apparently we did not take into account something - it turned out to be very bitter in taste. By the way, you can buy bananas unripe and they will ripen at home, but do not store them in the refrigerator, they quickly turn black. Banana leaves serve as decorative elements in the ceremonies of Buddhist and Hindu cultures. They are also used as plates for traditional South Asian food in India and Sri Lanka. In Kerala, we ate more than once from such a leaf, Indians believe that the leaf on which lunch is served gives the food a peculiar taste. Interesting fact: the world banana absorption record is 81 bananas per hour! The largest banana collection in the world, including more than 470 varieties and about 100 species, is located in Honduras.

Cacao

This is not about dried cocoa beans, but about the plant itself and its fruits. The first time we encountered him in Bali, sometimes he can be found in a fruit shop or on coffee plantations. The ripe fruit is bright yellow, large, 15-20 cm, shaped like a lemon, equipped with longitudinal furrows, inside there are many large seeds, arranged in several rows and surrounded by white juicy pulp, which can be enjoyed. For more information on the cultivation, drying and production of cocoa butter and cocoa powder, which are later used to make chocolate, we wrote in the article "Chocolate trees or how cocoa is grown in Bali."

Conclusion

In this article, we told you only about the fruits that we ourselves managed to get to know quite well and how to taste it. What kind of fruits do you like? Or maybe you tried some interesting exotic fruit that we haven't written about? Share this in the comments, we will be happy to read!

1 Miraculous berries

A very strange berry native to West Africa.

What makes the fruit strange, surprising, and wonderful is miraculin (a sugar substitute), which is found in large quantities in fruits in combination with glycoprotein.

The fruit itself does not contain much sugar, its taste is only slightly sweet, but an hour after eating wonderful berries, when the glycoprotein affects the taste buds of the tongue, the taste of any product is distorted, turning into sweetness.

For practical research, you can eat lemon after wonderful berries to try sweet syrup.

Certain causes of this phenomenon have not been fully studied, it would seem how miraculin can distort the perception of receptors in the language so that they perceive acid for sweetness.

In the 70s, attempts were made to sell wonderful fruits as dietary products in the fight against diabetes and overweight.

But they were unsuccessful when the FDA announced their food supplement under pressure from sugar companies that anticipated the loss.

In the past two years, the berry is gaining popularity again, becoming the guest star of many parties in the United States.

Guests are offered to try first wonderful sweet berries, and then all kinds of common products to experience new sensations of taste with every bite.

Astrakhan tomatoes ripen remarkably lying on the ground, but do not repeat this experience in the suburbs. Our tomatoes need support, support, garter. My neighbors use all kinds of pegs, garters, loops, ready-made plant supports and mesh fences. Each method of plant fixation in an upright position has its own advantages and "side effects". I’ll tell you how I place tomato bushes on trellises, and what comes of it.

Flies are a sign of unsanitary conditions and carriers of infectious diseases that are dangerous for both humans and animals. People are constantly looking for ways to get rid of unpleasant insects. In this article we will talk about the brand "Evil TED", which specializes in means of protection against flies and knows a lot about them. The summer months are hydrangea blooms. This beautiful deciduous shrub is luxuriously fragrant with flowers from June to September. Florists willingly use large inflorescences for wedding decors and bouquets. To admire the beauty of the flowering hydrangea bush in your garden, you should take care of the proper conditions for it. Unfortunately, some hydrangeas do not bloom from year to year, despite the care and efforts of gardeners. Why this happens, we will tell in the article.

Every summer resident knows that for full development, plants need nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. These are the three main macronutrients, the deficiency of which significantly affects the appearance and yield of plants, and in advanced cases can lead to their death. But at the same time, not everyone understands the importance of other macro- and microelements for plant health. And they are important not only on their own, but also for the effective assimilation of the same nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Garden strawberries, or strawberries, as we used to call it, is one of the early fragrant berries that summer generously endows with us. How happy we are for this crop! In order for the “berry boom” to be repeated every year, we need to take care of the berry bushes in the summer (after the end of fruiting). The laying of flower buds, from which the ovaries will form in the spring, and the berries in the summer, begins about 30 days after the end of the fruiting.

Spicy pickled watermelon - a savory snack to fatty meat. Watermelons and watermelon peels have been pickled since time immemorial, but this process is time-consuming and time-consuming. According to my recipe, just cook pickled watermelon in 10 minutes, and by the evening a spicy snack will be ready. Stored watermelon pickled with spices and chili in the refrigerator for several days. Be sure to keep the jar in the refrigerator, not just for safety - this appetizer is chilled - you’ll just lick your fingers!

Among the variety of species and hybrids of philodendrons there are many plants, both gigantic and compact. But not a single species can compete in modesty with the main modest - the blushing philodendron. True, his modesty does not apply to the appearance of the plant. The reddening stems and cuttings, huge leaves, long shoots that form a very large but strikingly elegant silhouette look very elegant. Blushing philodendron requires only one thing - at least minimal care.

Thick chickpea soup with vegetables and eggs is a simple recipe for a hearty first meal based on oriental cuisine. Such thick soups are cooked in India, Morocco, and countries of Southeast Asia. Spices and seasonings set the tone - garlic, chili, ginger and a bouquet of spicy spices that you can pick to your liking. It is better to fry vegetables and spices in melted butter (ghee) or mix olive and butter in a pan, this, of course, is not the same, but it seems to taste.

Plum - well, who doesn’t know her ?! She is loved by many gardeners. And all because it has an impressive list of varieties, it surprises with excellent yields, it pleases with its variety in terms of ripening and a huge selection of color, shape and taste of fruits. Yes, somewhere it feels better, somewhere it is worse, but practically not a summer resident refuses to grow it on its site. Today it can be found not only in the south, in the middle lane, but also in the Urals, in Siberia.

Many ornamental and fruit crops, except drought tolerant, suffer from the scorching sun, and conifers in the winter-spring period - from sunlight, amplified by reflection from the snow. In this article, we will talk about a unique drug for protecting plants from sunburn and drought - Sunset Agro-success. The problem is relevant for most regions of Russia. In February and early March, the sun's rays become more active, and the plants are not yet ready for new conditions.
