How to fix the sink in the kitchen with fasteners. Do-it-yourself installation of a sink on a countertop

It is worth noting that a kitchen sink is not a cast-iron bathtub, and you can easily install a sink alone. The weight of the sink, unlike the bath, is small; it is easily lifted and installed. By the way, you can buy a cast iron bathtub 170X70.

Initial data

There is a lower kitchen cupboard. Its depth is 405 mm. It is covered with a worktop 600 mm wide. The task is to build a round sink into the countertops with a bowl diameter of 400 mm with a total size of 490 mm.

Difficulties

When assembling the lower cabinet, the upper tightening straps were used with a width of 8 cm (see picture). The distance between them is 230 mm and it is clear that the sink does not fit into this distance. Therefore, the cabinet had to be rebuilt somewhat.

After the rebuild, the upper back bar was sawn off and moved down. The structural strength was not affected, and the space for the installation of the sink was freed.

The first alteration of the cabinet

The front coupler of the cabinet was also rotated and angles for fixing the countertops were added.

  The second alteration of the cabinet

Sink selection

The choice of sink was made for reasons of economy, and a round sink of Russian-made Omega brand was purchased. Shop "Leroy Merlin", in Moscow. The cost is 467 rubles + siphon with overflow + files for the "clean saw cut" jigsaw 100 mm long + silicone sealant.

Tool for work

Do-it-yourself mortise sink installation will require the following tool:

  • Electric jigsaw with files;
  • Set of screwdrivers;
  • A set of plumbing;
  • Pencil for marking;
  • Measuring tool (tape measure, angle, ruler).

Installation of mortise washing: work

Step 1. Cabinet overhaul

In my example, it was necessary to sort out the cabinet-table under the sink. In short, it was necessary to back the 8 cm screed of the cabinet, lower it down by 40-50 cm to establish a sink. This is easy to do, with four additional holes and furniture screws with a hex head (7 × 50).

Step 2. Marking the sink

The most important thing is to correctly mark the position of the sink on the countertop. I will explain what the feature is.

Firstly, on the back of the sink there are special “ears” for attaching the sink. A fixing clip is inserted into them, which clings to the countertop. The distance from these “ears” to the edge of the sink is about 15 mm. Need to measure. This size will be needed for layout.

The essence of the markup is as follows:

On the front (you can on the back, as in the photo) side of the countertop, put a sink;

6 cm from the back edge of the countertop, but not less than 4 cm. 4 cm are needed for the future installation of a decorative baseboard;

When marking, pay attention so that the sink bowl fits on the sash of the table and does not touch the furniture. That is why I went over the table under the sink;

Now the task is to make the second mark of the contour of the saw cut back from the size of the sink by 15-17 mm. This is the size by which the “ears” of the mount recede from the edge of the sink;

So that when sawing the front side of the sink does not suffer, paper tape must be glued along the saw line.

I did the marking on the back of the countertop (which I advise you too), so I didn’t have to think that the markup would ruin the countertop.

I had a round sink, and for marking I had to find the center of the circle. Finding it is easy. Draw any chord of a circle, divide it in half and draw a perpendicular - this is the diameter of the circle. Divide it in half and get the center of the circle. Reduce the radius of the circle by 15 mm and draw a circle saw cut (photo above).

Check the correctness of the drink by trying on the sink. The "ears" of the mount should be inside the cut. If you missed the markings, cut through the places where the ears hit.

I drank the finished one, wipe it with a rag and wait until it dries. I drank on the end, apply a layer of sealant. Use a rubber spatula for this. The sealant layer must be neat. We don’t apply sealant anywhere else.

Step 4. Assembling the sink

The washing assembly takes place in three stages:

  1. Along the edge of the sink from the back in a special groove, glue the seal included in the sink;
  2. Install a kitchen faucet in the sink hole;
  3. Collect the siphon and screw the drain to the sink;
  4. Sure! Install the sink mount clips in the “ears” of the mount. Unscrew the clamps, and tilt the hook to the bowl so that they do not interfere with the installation of the sink. a photo

Step 5. Installing the sink

  • Set the countertop in place.
  • Insert the sink into the hole, orienting the mixer.
  • Having unfolded fastenings below, fix the sink to the countertop.
  • Everything, the sink is.

Step 6. Securing the countertops

After making the last measurements, and finally installing the countertop, fix the countertop to the lower cabinets.

Step 7. Plumbing

I completely forgot to say that in the wall of the cabinet under the sink you need to make holes for the sewer and water pipes.

It would seem that it could be easier than installing a sink. A simple, no-frills device that is simply mounted on a floor cabinet. But it should be noted that today manufacturers of sanitary fixtures offer different models with their own installation method. Most often, overhead and mortise sinks are found. The installation of a wash-on sink is carried out on a pedestal; the mortise is mounted on a countertop, in which a hole is made previously for the dimensions and shape of the sink.

Of course, the easiest option is the invoice option. Under such a sink, a floor cabinet is made without a countertop and a back wall, and, of course, without shelves. But the cabinet does not lose functionality from this. Its interior space is used to store household detergents and some items of kitchen utensils and equipment.

The sink itself is usually made of stainless steel, so its cost is not very high compared to other options: stone or acrylic products. But the stainless steel withstands quite large and different loads: the negative effects of water (cold and hot) and a large amount of household chemicals.

If we talk about the variety of options offered, then overhead sinks are most often square-shaped sinks with standard sides within 40-60 cm and a depth of thickets from 15 to 20 cm. Purely structurally, the overhead sink is a thicket with small sides, three of which are rounded , this is done for the convenience of installing the sink on the cabinet. And the trailing edge is slightly raised at an angle or flanging is made on it at a right angle. This is done with one single purpose - to avoid water from entering between the device and the wall.

True, it should be noted that manufacturers offer different models. Double, this is with two thickets. Or with a ribbed additional surface where washed dishes for draining water fit. But the principle of installing a surface-mounted sink on the pedestal (of all models) is the same.

Currently, overhead sinks are sold either complete with a floor cabinet, or separately. It is clear that the first option assumes the accuracy of the assembly of the sink relative to the dimensions of the cabinet. That is, there is no need to measure its size and check the size of the selected cabinet.

You can also add that sinks for kitchen overhead type can be matte or glossy. The first option is more practical, because it does not show stains and smudges. And, of course, the biggest advantage of this plumbing fixture is its ease of installation.

Installation Rules

So, we turn to the main question of the article - how to install a surface wash? The whole process is divided into two main stages:

  1. Installation of a laid on sink.

The curbstone itself is a piece of cabinet furniture, so it is sold unassembled. So, you have to assemble it with your own hands. In principle, there is nothing complicated about this, because the cabinet has only a few assembly elements:

  • two side walls;
  • bottom;
  • two doors;
  • three frames, with the help of which the necessary strength of the whole structure is created;
  • fittings;
  • fasteners.

For assembly, you need only one tool - a screwdriver.

First, two frames are attached to the side walls with screws and metal corners: one on top, the other on the bottom. That is, a kind of frame is created. The bottom of the cabinet must be placed on the lower frame and fixed in the same way as the side walls. Now the rear frame is installed. It is attached to the sidewalls with corners and self-tapping screws installed in the middle.

Attention! Doors of the floor cabinet can only be installed after the installation of the surface sink.

Installing and fixing the sink

Before installing a stainless steel sink on the cabinet, you need to understand that for this you can use various mounting materials. For example, the easiest way is to apply sealant to the ends of the upper frame and place the sink on top of it. True, we must pay tribute to this plumbing fixture, which itself can withstand decent mechanical loads, which can not be said about sealants. After all, the sink in the kitchen is constantly exposed to shock, displacement, vibration. Therefore, the sealant, as a fastener, in this case is in doubt.

Someone is trying to assure that instead of sealant, it is better to use polyurethane foam, which has a large bonding effect. No one argues with this that foam is better than sealant in terms of adhesive function, but again there is no certainty that washing under the influence of mechanical stresses and temperature changes will not fly off this type of fastener.

They are installed on the ends of the sidewalls closer to each edge. Mounting is carried out with a self-tapping screw. That is, it is necessary at a certain level on the inner sides of the side walls of the cabinet to screw in two screws. The places of their installation are determined empirically. To do this, install the bracket with the top shelf close to the upper end of the cabinet wall. Make a mark in the outermost slot. Please note that the brackets themselves are installed so that the slot for the screw, which is located at an angle with respect to the upper shelf, is located at this angle towards the door.

Now, the screws on the sidewalls are screwed in, not completely, because you need to install the brackets on them, put them on the slot and slide them all the way. At the same time, a gap remains between the upper shelf of the fasteners and the end of the side wall, where it will be necessary to insert the landing edge of the sink itself. After that, the brackets are shifted to the stop, clamping the edge of the plumbing fixture, and the self-tapping screw is screwed to the end, fixing the bracket itself. This fixture for a surface sink is considered the best. In any case, this is a guaranteed mount. But before fixing the surface wash in this way, it is recommended that the upper ends of the side walls of the cabinet be sealed. This, firstly, will increase the strength of the shell fit, and, secondly, it will create conditions for the sealed installation of the device.

There is another option that is rarely used today. This is the attachment of the sink to the do-it-yourself stand. It can be made in the form of a crate, which is attached to the sides of the cabinet. In fact, the design itself should somehow resemble the shape of the bowl of the sink. That is, the sink will be held not only on the side walls of the cabinet, but also on the fabricated frame.

Conclusion on the topic

So, several mounting options have been proposed that meet the topic of how to install an overhead sink. By the way, it should be noted that this type of sink can be installed without a curbstone. To do this, you can assemble a frame of wooden battens or a metal profile, which is used in the installation of drywall. This frame must be attached to the wall with metal dowels, and the sink itself should already be laid on it. This option is well suited for summer kitchen in the country.

And one more tip. Before installing the wash itself, you must assemble it completely. That is, install and secure the mixer or tap with the hoses leading to it. You can install a strainer on the drain hole. There is not enough space inside the cabinet, so it will be difficult to carry out these operations there.

The type of sink and its location largely determine the convenience of cooking and the comfort of the entire kitchen. This is not only a functional subject, but also part of the design of the room. Therefore, the choice of a kitchen sink must be approached with all responsibility.

We will help you determine the optimal model and tell you where it is better to place it. And also describe how to install a sink in the kitchen without the help of specialists. Installation technology is quite simple, the main thing is to adhere to the rules and requirements outlined in the article.

One of the key aspects in the installation is the type of sink, which implies a certain design and mounting device:

  • mortise  - are installed in a specially prepared connector in the countertop, cut to the size of the sink;
  • waybills  - inexpensive and easy to install models are superimposed on a freestanding cabinet.

According to the type of arrangement relative to the countertop, kitchen sinks are divided into desktop, table and wall mounted.

The first is mounted below the level of the work surface. The latter are mounted on hinged brackets, rarely used due to low aesthetics.

Image Gallery

Mounting on mounting brackets.  In some cases, special fasteners are sold along with the sink. First, self-tapping screws are braided into the inner walls of the cabinet, on which the brackets are suspended. Then the screws are screwed onto ¾. After that, the sink is installed in the opening with mixing on the mounting bracket.

In the process of maneuvering, it is necessary to ensure that the sink is completely pressed against the curbstone, and the self-tapping screw is fixed in place of the deepening of the corner. Then the screws are screwed all the way.

Installation of a stand-alone sink is somewhat easier, because implies in its design the presence of special holes and brackets for fixing

Mounting on wooden blocks.  This method is used when the previous two are not suitable, for example, due to a defect in the countertop or the lack of corresponding connectors on the sink. In this case, you will need 4 wooden bars and furniture corners. Using these materials, you can make an installation site.

The height of the bars is selected so that the sink is at the same level as the rest of the kitchen furniture. Under the size of the cabinet, bars are cut and fastened from the outside with the help of furniture corners. A home-made design is installed on the pedestal and, with the corners with self-tapping screws, is screwed from the inside to the walls of the table.

In the last two ways you need to take care of tightness. To do this, apply a layer of sealant to the contact points of the cabinet / wooden platform with the sink.

Mounting mortise model:

Installation of a sink is a responsible task on which functionality of a working space and reliability depends. Incorrect installation can lead to rapid destruction of the countertops if water begins to penetrate the sink.

The main thing in the installation is the high-quality sealing of the joint between the sink and the ends of the kitchen furniture.

The application of innovative technologies in the field of design has significantly expanded the range of interior solutions for the kitchen, where the equipment used must be not only aesthetic, but also functional. In accordance with existing requirements, a modern kitchen should be equipped with a number of devices and appliances designed to optimize the cooking process. One of such devices is a kitchen sink, the installation of which only at first glance seems a fairly simple task. However, given the variety of models and possible places for its placement, it is important to approach the choice of design and the procedure for its placement most responsibly. Despite the wide range, the most popular are mortise structures made of stainless steel and built into the kitchen worktop. Given the popularity of these products, it will be most appropriate to consider the design features of this product and find the answer to the question: "How to install a mortise sink in a countertop?"

  Ergonomic principles in the kitchen: the role of the kitchen sink

To optimize the cooking process, it is necessary to properly position the kitchen furniture and appliances. Surely everyone is familiar with the concept of “ergonomics” and with its basic principles, which can be slightly modified depending on the type of room. The kitchen was no exception - repairs on the premises of this building are subject to strictly defined ergonomic principles. In accordance with them, the arrangement of furniture and equipment in the kitchen depends on the order of work, and therefore, it is recommended to arrange the furniture from left to right in a strictly defined sequence: refrigerator - dishwasher (if available) - sink - stove. Between the above technical objects, it is recommended to place work surfaces with cabinets.

As for the minimum distances between objects, they also have certain requirements:

  • The distance between the sink and stove, as well as between the refrigerator and the sink should be 40 cm;
  • The refrigerator and stove should also be located at a distance of 40 cm from each other.

What to consider when choosing a kitchen sink?

When choosing a kitchen sink, pay attention to the following factors:

  • Functionality, determined by the nature of the work carried out in the kitchen and depending on the number of additional bowls in the sink and wings for drying. These departments will be useful if you are used to carry out several manipulations in the kitchen at once;
  • Capacity, in the process of determining which it is necessary to pay attention to the amount of daily washing dishes;
  • Stability and durability, more dependent on the material of which the structure is made;
  • The design solution and design of the sink should be such that it fits perfectly into the environment and becomes a full-fledged element of a holistic interior concept;
  • Ease of use: the configuration of the sink should be such that it was comfortable to stand and work near it.

  Constructive types of kitchen sinks: a brief description

A number of requirements are imposed on the installation of a kitchen sink, and therefore, it must be carried out in accordance with a specific technology. The choice of the required technological solution, and, accordingly, the installation method depends on the design of the sink. Consider the most popular design types:

  • Surface mounted sinks - The most budget option, a distinctive feature of which is the ease of installation. The principle of their installation is based on the fact that the sink is put on a separate stand, and therefore, they become an extension of the countertop, as if replacing it. Despite the indisputable advantage described above, sinks of this type are also characterized by drawbacks - the relatively small thickness of the product and the formation of a gap between the sink and countertop, which leads to additional inconvenience;

Important!Experts recommend giving preference to overhead models in the event that the kitchen set consists of separate sections. If the kitchen modules are combined under a common worktop, it will be more appropriate to use built-in models.

  • Mortise sinks  - represent the model, the installation of which is carried out directly in the countertop, in connection with which, installation activities must begin with the preparation of the corresponding holes in the countertop. The technology for installing mortise sinks involves fixing the structure to the inside of the countertop using special clamps and brackets. Built-in sinks of this type are characterized by a solid appearance and ease of use. Despite the fact that the cost of such models is slightly higher, experienced specialists often give preference to them in view of their practicality and the ability to avoid moisture accumulation between the stands;

  • Table sinks  - innovative models, the high cost of which reduces their widespread availability and limits widespread use. The principle of installation of these sanitary products involves their mounting below the level of the countertop, and therefore, they form a single whole with it. The advantages of table sinks are aesthetic appearance, high noise absorption and effective sealing of joints. In addition, such products are hygienic and durable.

  Materials for the manufacture of mortise and surface sinks

As for overhead and mortise sinks, those and others are made of stainless steel with the same frequency, remaining at the moment one of the most popular. The appearance of mortise sinks made of stainless steel can be different - most often there are smooth sinks and sinks with a texture that imitates linen.

In addition to traditional sinks made of stainless and enameled steel, mortise sinks made of stone and mineral-epoxy composite materials are no less popular. A demanded material is also an artificial stone. Sinks made of composite materials have a spectacular granular structure that resembles polished stone in appearance. Mortise sinks made of artificial stone make up an extensive group of kitchen accessories characterized by high aesthetic and performance characteristics, including scratch, abrasion and extreme temperature resistance.

The shape of the sinks is no less diverse - along with single-bowl models, there are also models with several (from two to four) bowls, which can be both shallow and deep, equipped with additional dryers.

  Basics of mounting a washbasin

  • Installation of the sink is carried out on a separate module of the kitchen worktop so that it completely covers its upper part. Such an installation is quite simple - the equipment is mounted using L-shaped elements with an oblique slot. To fix one sink, it is necessary to prepare at least 4-5 fasteners.

Important!  Before proceeding with the installation of the sink, it is necessary to connect a mixer, which subsequently will avoid difficulties in the installation process.

  • Attach prepared fasteners to the inside of the cabinet and leave the appropriate notes;
  • Prepare the shortest self-tapping screws (15 mm) and screw them in the marked places so that at least 5 mm protrude above the mark;
  • Treat the end face of the cabinet with sealant, which will protect the furniture and increase the reliability of fastening the sink;
  • Set the sink on the screwed-in screws and move to a full fit;
  • Fix the fasteners and, removing excess sealant, connect the sink to the plumbing and sewer systems.

  Installing a mortise sink in a countertop: a step-by-step guide

Consider the principle of installing a mortise sink in a chipboard countertop, covered with plastic on top. If you wondered how to fix the mortise sink to the countertop from other materials, including artificial stone, carefully read the product passport, where the manufacturer must describe in detail the recommendations for working with this material.

  Preparation of materials and tools

Before proceeding with the installation of a sink, check its completeness with mounting material. Most often these are special clips that are mounted on two sides - on the cropped end of the countertop and on the inside of the sink. In addition, the kit should include a tubular seal, which is required to seal the joints. In addition, prepare the following set of tools:

  • Electric jigsaw, which can be replaced with conventional hand tools, and a set of spare wood files;
  • Drill with a drill 10 mm (for metal) and screws;
  • Standard set of measuring tools: building knife, level, corner, tape measure, Phillips screwdriver, ruler and pencil;
  • Colorless silicone sealant necessary for the lubrication of cracks and joints.

  Markup Performance: Important Nuances

  • The markings made in accordance with the recommendations below will be relevant in the case of installation of a standard rectangular sink. When installing a round mortise sink, familiarize yourself with the additional nuances of installation.
  • Using a pencil, in the place where you plan to install the sink, draw two perpendicular lines at the intersection of which the drain will be located;
  • Turn the sink over and place it on the countertop with the bowl up and level in accordance with the prepared marking (you can see the intersection of the axes through the drain hole). Take a simple pencil and circle the outer borders of the sink around the perimeter. It is important to take into account the dimensions of mortise sinks, as well as the relative position of the borders of the sink and the remaining edges of the countertop, the presence of which is necessary for the rational installation of the cabinet doors;

Important!  So that the mortise sink into the countertop does not become an obstacle to closing the doors of the cabinet, it must be inside the cabinet.

  • Next, measure the width of the rim of the sink and, in accordance with the obtained value, draw an inner contour along which the cut line will pass. Despite the fact that the width of the rim is an individual value for each sink, on average it fluctuates within 12 mm.

Important!  The size of the hole should be such that the sink freely enters into it, while the permissible deviation from the marking should not exceed 3 mm.

  How to cut a hole in the countertop?

  • This process is carried out using a jigsaw, however, before the tool saw enters the entire depth of the material from which the tabletop is made, it is necessary to make technological holes to facilitate the work process. Holes are made using a drill or a screwdriver at the corners of the internal marking.

Important!  Corner holes should be located in the inner plane of the cutting area, and their edges should only be in contact with the cut line.

  • To avoid the formation of chips of the laminated surface, the entire front of the cutting work must be performed on the front side of the countertop.
  • After you have made holes in the corners of the cutting plane, use a jigsaw to cut the hole along the inner line of the cut. So that the cut-off part of the countertop does not fall, screw the screws along the cut line to ensure its fixation.
  • After you have made a hole in the countertop, remove the screws and the cutting part of the countertop from the main plane, clean the cut from dust. Pre-install the sink in the resulting hole, which is necessary in order to check the compliance of the product with the dimensions of the hole.

Important!  The sink should freely enter the hole obtained (if difficulties arise, it is necessary to cut the edges with a jigsaw).

  • In the process of preparing holes on the inner cut line, all kinds of micro chips and roughness can form. In this regard, it is necessary to consider the rules for processing a slice, in case of neglect of which there may arise problems of the following nature:
  • Absolute sealing of an uncleaned chipboard surface is practically impossible;

Important!  Insufficient sealing will cause moisture to enter the unprotected area of \u200b\u200bthe countertop, which will cause the activation of rotting and the formation of fungal deposits. Subsequently, the cutting edge will become brittle, which will reduce the stability of the sink and lead to its distortion.

  • Rotting countertops will soon lead to a decrease in its physical, aesthetic and operational characteristics, and therefore, there will be a need to replace it.
  • To avoid this, the end side of the cut is ground with fine-grained sandpaper;
  • Carefully treat the entire cut area with plumbing sealant. Experts recommend performing this work with a spatula, in the absence of which it can be done with a finger. By conducting such protective measures, you will prevent wetting and swelling of the countertops.

Important!If in the process of work you find chips on the plastic (the front side of the countertop) carefully coat them with sealant, and it is absolutely not necessary that the layer be thick - its thickness does not matter in this case.

  • There is another way to protect the end side of the cut - processing with PVA glue. Despite the fact that it is more labor-intensive - in its reliability it is not inferior to the previous one, however, for greater protection, the applied layer of glue should dry for 30-50 minutes.
  • The next step involves gluing a seal made of foamed polyethylene (it was previously noted that it should be included in the washing set). It is glued to the side of the sink around its perimeter. If, having glued a sealant, you found sticking edges of the material, carefully cut them with a knife. If you ignore this advice, you will find that the edges of the sink do not fit snugly against the countertop, and water falling into the gaps will lead to swelling and subsequent decay of the ends of the countertop.

Due to the fact that the process of gluing the sealant directly determines the wear resistance and operational characteristics of the future headset, we will consider it in more detail.

  • Take a sealant and with a rag moistened with gasoline and solvent, degrease it;
  • Apply a sealant to the sealant in a non-breaking strip (the strip of sealant should be thin enough so that the adhesive does not come out during compression);
  • Press the seal against the outer edge of the sink.

  How to fix the mortise sink to the countertop?

  • Apply a layer of silicone on the countertop (between the cut and the outer marking line);
  • Install fasteners on the inside of the sink sides and, making sure that they are not fully locked, proceed to install the sink. It begins with the deepening of the side where the crane will be mounted;

  • Subsequently, the remaining part gradually becomes into the hole until the sides of the sink are firmly in contact with the inner surface of the countertop.

Important!  During installation of the sink, press firmly on the entire surface of the structure, which will remove excess silicone from under the sides of the sink.

  • Using the building level, make sure the installation is correct, and then proceed to the final stage - the final fastening of the fixing elements;
  • After completing the above activities, proceed to connect communications. To do this, connect the hot and cold water hoses to the plumbing system using a gasket.

After fixing the hoses, the installation measures are as follows:

  • Enter the siphon outlet into the sink (S-shaped design is recommended);
  • Add a rigid corner or soft corrugated pipe to the siphon;
  • Take the pipe from the siphon to the sewer;
  • Check all system connections for leaks.

  How to cut a hole in a countertop if it is made of artificial stone?

  • In most cases, artificial stone worktops are ordered with holes designed for a specific sink, however, if such conditions were not agreed upon in the ordering process, you can contact specialists who, using special tools, will cut a hole of the required shape and size.
  • If you want to carry out the work yourself, in accordance with the technology described above, instead of a jigsaw, use an angle grinder (grinder), as well as a disk for cutting concrete with diamond dusting.

  Features of installation of corner, round, and also granite sinks

The process of inserting a corner and round sink is identical to that described above, however, for both varieties there are certain installation features.

Features of installing a round sink:

  • On the cut line, experts recommend making several holes in increments of 7-10 cm, which will facilitate this process;
  • If the wash of your chosen model is not equipped with a cutout template, do it yourself.

Features of installation of a corner sink:

  • Due to the fact that the angle of rotation of the cutting lines is less than 90 degrees, to improve the passage of the jigsaw, make several holes along the cut line - in the corner connection of the lines and at a distance of 2-3 mm from it.

The specifics of the installation of granite washing:

  • It consists in the fact that the design of a granite sink does not imply the presence of holes for installing a drain siphon for a mortise sink and a faucet. They must be made independently using a drill equipped with a special nozzle. If you do not have experience with equipment made of artificial stone, you need to be extremely careful, as the slightest mistake can cause a hardware defect.

Sink is an integral element of any kitchen. There are many variations of this attribute. The best option is a model built into the cabinet. Anyone can install it with their own hands, the main thing is to adhere to the installation features and have the necessary tool.

What you need to install a sink

Stainless steel sinks are very popular due to their light weight, durability and ease of installation. Before starting the installation of the sink, you need to assemble the furniture.  Depending on the type of cabinet, fasteners and assembly methods differ. The kit usually comes with accessories and the necessary instructions.

IMPORTANT!Headsets should be selected from separate modules to reduce installation time. For kitchens with a common worktop, sink holes and communications should be prepared in advance.

To attach the sink correctly, you must assemble a minimum set of tools. To seal the joints, you need a silicone sealant that protects the furniture surface from moisture.

Accessories for installation:

  • electric drill or screwdriver;
  • a set of drills with a dimeter for fastening;
  • self-tapping screws and other products for fasteners;
  • screwdrivers in a set with different cross sections;
  • masking tape to protect furniture;
  • ruler and device for level measurement;
  • sealant for sealing joints.

Before installation, it is recommended to clean the space and remove excess. For convenience, all communications should be fixed on the pedestal in advance. After fixing the sink, this step will be problematic. The installation location will depend on the location of the water pipes and sewage.  If space permits, then it is not recommended to place a curbstone near to the refrigerator and heating devices.

Ways to install a sink on the cabinet

Stainless steel sinks in standard sizes can be fixed in two ways. Depending on the type of product and the features of the cabinet, different options are chosen.

Mounting Methods:

  • using sealant;
  • fixing on self-tapping screws.

ATTENTION!In the case where the sink is lightweight, two options can be used. If the product is non-standard, then the sealant cannot cope with the load, the use of metal fasteners is required.

When choosing a sealant, factors such as reliability and safe composition should be considered. To fix the shell, a volume of up to 150 ml is suitable. The product should be with the current shelf life. For ease of application, you may need a special gun. Excess should be removed until the product has completely dried.

REFERENCE!  The advantage of fastening on self-tapping screws is durability in use. Such a sink can withstand heavy loads.

You can apply an integrated approach. In this case, the sink is fixed to the pedestal with the help of fasteners, and the holes of the joints are coated with silicone sealant. Depending on the model of washing, you can install on the cabinet in different ways. Standard mounts must be present.

The sink with curved sides can be lifted using wooden blocks. The dimensions of the product should allow a change in design. In the case when the standard brackets are not suitable for installation, you can cut corners of wood or plastic yourself. The stand can be mounted on legs or fixed to the wall. There are no fundamental features - it all depends on personal preferences.

Preparation of furniture for washing installation

The curbstone from the manufacturer is usually delivered unassembled, so before installation it is necessary to assemble according to the instructions. The standard kit usually includes: base, side walls, doors and countertops.  To bring convenience to the supply of communications, the back wall in the headset is usually absent. The kit usually contains the necessary fasteners and a hexagon. If items are missing, they must be prepared separately. Depending on the model, the assembly procedure may vary.

Basic assembly steps:

The countertop may not be in the cabinet. In this case, the installation will take less time. If the installation of the sink is carried out in the finished headset, then you need to cut a hole under the sink in advance.  In order not to spoil the furniture, it is necessary to carry out all actions carefully.

Primary requirements:

  1. Initially, it is necessary to remove the necessary dimensions and prepare a sketch of the future hole.
  2. Then it is transferred to the surface of the countertop. It is important that there is equal distance from all sides. The more accurately the hole is cut, the more reliable the wash will be.
  3. Depending on the material of the countertop, a hole is cut in different ways. For wooden surfaces, you need a jigsaw or milling machine. Stone surfaces cannot be cut at home.
  4. The countertop can be treated with water repellent. In this case, chipboard and wooden furniture can last longer.
  5. To make the slices neat, you need to remove burrs and bumps. To avoid gaps, the joints are coated with sealant for reliability.

When carrying out work, safety precautions should be observed. Cutting and assembly must be carried out with protective gloves. If a grinder is used, then the respiratory tract must be protected with a mask. Work with the pedestal is best done outdoors.

Stainless steel sink installation

Depending on the design of the cabinet, the stainless steel sink can be integrated and installed in a laid-on way. The installation procedure in these cases is different.

Mounting the sink in the countertop:

After installation, it is necessary to wait until the sealant dries.  The product cannot be used for several hours. Next, you should remove the remnants of the composition, and check the performance. If necessary, remove garbage and wash the sink. In case of leak detection, sealing is carried out repeatedly at the required sites.

Installation of a laid on sink:

  1. To properly install the false sink with your own hands, you need to assemble furniture and prepare a place for future installation.
  2. The sink will be held securely in the cabinet with fasteners. The kit may come with the necessary items. If there are no fasteners, then improvised tools will do. The sink can be installed on wooden blocks or plastic corners.
  3. Temporarily the product can be fixed with self-tapping screws for reliability. After the final installation, these items can be deleted.
  4. The mixer must be fixed immediately with a nut and washer. Connecting to the pipes is the next step using flexible hoses. Depending on the quality of the elements, the reliability of the entire structure will depend.
  5. The siphon is collected using plastic nuts and rubberized gaskets. Usually siphon equipment provides for these elements. Lubricate all joints with silicone sealant.
  6. Further, if necessary, additional elements and conclusions for the filter are attached.
  7. The final step is the removal of sealant residues and debris removal. Reliability of fastenings is tested at the first inclusion.

Surface mounted sinks can be produced in different sizes. There are standard forms, but if necessary, you can integrate the sink into the cabinets made to order. Corrosion-proof sinks are affordable, and therefore are popular among buyers.

The sink should be chosen according to personal preferences and the size of the furniture. Preference should be given to simple models without drawers and shelves.  In this case, nothing will interfere with communications. The installation process of the sink will not cause difficulties when observing the basic rules of installation. Work is carried out with a tool. Correct and tight mount will ensure safety during use, as well as increase the life of the product. In the case when you can’t install it yourself, you can contact the specialists.
