The history of which begins back in 1918. Nowadays, the university is considered a leader both in the quality of education and in the number of students enrolled among universities in the Voronezh region. The largest scientific conference for schoolchildren in the region is held at VSU. Therefore, Voronezh is rightfully considered one of the best places to receive a classical humanities education.

History of the faculty

In 2018, VSU celebrated its centenary. During this time, the Faculty of History of VSU changed its specialization several times from history to history-philology and back. Former students of technical faculties tell with nostalgia how, at the first opportunity, they ran to open lectures with historians.

The form of taking the exam has also changed - previously there was no session at the university, and students themselves agreed with the teacher on the date of taking the exam. Now, of course, the session is held in the usual mode for everyone - twice a year, and the date is set by the university management.

How is the training going?

Since 2011, the Faculty of History of VSU has been training specialists in the fields of history, political science, document studies, sociology, oriental studies and African studies. Today the faculty has 6 departments. There are 7 doctors of science and 54 candidates teaching at the Faculty of History.

Modern archaeological methods are taught at archaeological sites in Central and Southern Russia. The practice includes the study of mounds, settlements, ancient settlements, practice in museums and research centers. The training ends with the defense of a master's thesis and the awarding of a master's degree.

Training takes place in the following specialties:

  • story;
  • political science;
  • document management;
  • sociology.

Full-time study will take 4 years, part-time study will take 6 years.

Employment of graduates

Graduates of the Faculty of History of Voronezh State University are employed as teachers in universities and gymnasiums. In addition, they are hired to work in museums and bodies for the protection of historical and cultural heritage, and government agencies. They can also devote themselves to science and engage in archaeological research, etc.

The international cooperation

The main scientific partners are universities in Ireland and Germany. In this regard, the Irish Research Center and the German Center for Historical Research operate on the basis of the Faculty of History. The faculty also has several scientific laboratories: ethnographic, sociological, archaeological, and historiographical.

Currently, 58 foreign students and 5 graduate students from abroad are studying at the Faculty of History.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Since 2012, the Institute of International Relations has opened a major in “Oriental and African Studies” and has been providing full-time training in the “Languages ​​of Asian and African Countries” profile.

Education in the direction of "Oriental and African Studies" involves a combination of classical oriental education with an in-depth study of history, religion, social thought and political processes in the countries of the East. Our students undergo a training course that includes a comprehensive study of history, politics, economics, literature, religion, ethnography, culture, and geography of the East. The basis of oriental education is professional mastery of the oriental language. Main languages: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Vietnamese, Turkish, Hindi, Swahili, Indonesian, Urdu, Afrikaans.

The study of an extensive complex of historical, philosophical, religious studies, political science, economic and cultural disciplines prepares the graduate for research, translation and practical activities in all areas of interaction with the countries and peoples of Asia and Africa.

Training profile “Languages ​​of Asia and Africa” aimed at comprehensive study of language and literature. During the course of training, students master the essence of linguistic phenomena and linguistic terminology. The profile courses cover current problems of modern linguistics and its concepts, study in detail the features of Eastern philology, methodology and techniques for analyzing texts in the Eastern language of specialization. Students also get acquainted with the basics of modern literary criticism, the history of literature of Asian and African countries, as well as modern literature of the country of specialization. Students not only receive primary skills in translation and working with texts, but also actively practiced in translation activities(oral, written, sequential, synchronous, etc.) in the three languages ​​Russian - Eastern - English throughout the entire course of study. During the training, students are also invited to study the basics of pedagogy, methods of teaching the Eastern language, as well as modern technologies and forms of teaching.

Students who successfully complete the curriculum pass internship at foreign universities, have the opportunity to actively participate in the scientific life of the Kazan Federal University, and undergo internships in the system of government and administrative institutions. In addition, deep understanding of political and economic processes in the world impossible without systematic monitoring of the international political situation: students of this profile are trained in the Situation Center of our Institute(created jointly with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences), obtaining primary skills in expert and analytical activities, and also practice their language and translation skills. Recruitment is carried out in three directions: Chinese studies, Japanese studies, and Arabic studies. In each of these areas, two oriental languages ​​are studied. The first Eastern - 12 academic hours per week, the second Eastern - four hours per week. The head of the program is A. A. Rodionov, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Chinese Philology at St. Petersburg State University. Main teachers: A. A. Borisova, D. I. Mayatsky, M. N. Suvorov.

In addition to language, the program covers regional studies disciplines (history, literature, ethnography, geography, economics, politics of the language being studied, etc.). A graduate of the program can carry out professional activities in the conditions of foreign language intercultural communication, requiring the use of the Eastern language in oral and/or written form, or other professional activities requiring knowledge of the cultural, ethnopsychological and linguistic characteristics of Eastern countries.

Based on the results of the final certification, students are issued a diploma of professional retraining in the established form from St. Petersburg State University. Requirements for the previous level of education of students are any higher education or 3–4 year university education.
